Amrit Bhangoo, M.D., is Section Chair of Endocrinology and Director of Research in the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology at Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at UC Irvine School of Medicine. Bhangoo received an MBBS (Doctor of Medicine) from Guru Govind Singh Medical College in Punjab, India, and completed pediatric residency and pediatric endocrinology fellowship training at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. Bhangoo is board certified in both general pediatrics and pediatric endocrinology, and has served as Site Director for the UC Irvine Adult Endocrinology Fellowship Program at CHOC.
Bhangoo's research focuses on genetic disorders affecting growth, metabolism, and endocrine function, with particular emphasis on Noonan syndrome, monogenic diabetes, early-onset obesity, and rare forms of congenital adrenal hyperplasia. Bhangoo has authored a textbook on Noonan syndrome published by Elsevier and has contributed to understanding the molecular genetics of conditions including steroidogenic acute regulatory protein mutations, growth hormone receptor defects, and disorders of sex development. Bhangoo has served as principal investigator on multiple research projects examining insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome in children, and growth hormone therapy outcomes.
Bhangoo has published over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles and more than 100 conference abstracts, and serves as Editor for Frontiers in Pediatrics: Pediatric Endocrinology. Bhangoo has been recognized as an OC Physician of Excellence for three consecutive years (2023-2025) and has received multiple research awards including the Maimonides Research Foundation Grant for Monogenic Diabetes and the Reader's Choice Award from the European Journal of Endocrinology. Bhangoo is a member of the Pediatric Endocrine Society, the Endocrine Society, and the European Society of Paediatric Endocrinology, and serves on the board of the Human Growth Foundation.
