Andrés Forero Cuervo
Biography
Andrés Forero Cuervo, Ph.D., is Academic Coordinator of the UCI MATH CEO Project at the University of California, Irvine Mathematics Department. He received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of California, Irvine in 2015, where his research focused on set theory under the supervision of Martin Zeman. His doctoral dissertation examined the consistency strength of stationary catching, and he has published work on set theory and discrete mathematics, including "Matemática Estructural," an introductory textbook for discrete mathematics that has been used at Universidad de Los Andes for over a decade.
Forero Cuervo has coordinated multiple large-scale curriculum translation projects, serving as project coordinator, translator, and revisor for the Spanish translations of several mathematics curricula, including the Illustrative Mathematics K-5, 6-8, and 9-12 curricula, as well as the Open Up Resources High School and Middle School curricula. These projects involved managing translation teams and ensuring curriculum progressions were maintained across languages. He has also developed original mathematics curricula for the Fe y Alegría school system in Colombia for grades K-11, creating teaching guides and training modules using a sociocultural framework for teaching and learning mathematics.
In addition to his curriculum development work, Forero Cuervo has designed formative assessment activities for ICFES aligned with Colombia's National Assessment Standards in Mathematics and has served as an assessment design advisor at Universidad de Los Andes. He has worked with Colombia's Ministry of Education on the PIONEROS TODOS A APRENDER project, training teachers in the Singapore Method and conducting classroom observations using the Danielson Framework for Teaching. He is a current member of the Comisión para la educación of the Colombian Mathematical Society.
