Adam G. Kreutzer
Biography
Adam G. Kreutzer, Ph.D., is an Associate Researcher in the Department of Chemistry at the University of California, Irvine. His research focuses on understanding the molecular structures of amyloid oligomers in Alzheimer's disease and developing immunotherapies targeting these toxic protein assemblies. Kreutzer has developed conformationally constrained peptide model systems that mimic amyloid-beta oligomers, enabling X-ray crystallographic studies that provide atomic-resolution insights into oligomer structures.
Kreutzer has authored 33 peer-reviewed publications and holds two U.S. patents related to synthetic beta-amyloid peptides and cyclic peptides for therapeutic applications. His work includes generating antibodies against structurally defined amyloid-beta oligomer mimics that recognize pathological features in Alzheimer's disease brain tissue and protect neurons from amyloid-beta toxicity. He has also contributed to structure-based drug design efforts, including the development of a cyclic peptide inhibitor of the SARS-CoV-2 main protease.
Kreutzer received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California, Irvine in 2017, where he conducted his graduate research with Professor James Nowick. He completed postdoctoral training at UC Irvine, supported by an NIA Postdoctoral Training Grant in Neurobiology of Aging. He is a member of the Alzheimer's Association International Society to Advance Alzheimer's Research and Treatment, the Society for Neuroscience, and the American Chemical Society.
