Alexandre Chan
Biography
Alexandre Chan, PharmD, PhD, MPH, FCCP, FISOPP, BCPS, BCOP, APh, is a Professor of Clinical Pharmacy in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy Practice at the University of California, Irvine School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, with joint appointments in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Division of Hematology/Oncology in the School of Medicine. He also holds appointments as Adjunct Faculty at Duke-NUS Medical School. Prof. Chan's research is focused on cancer supportive care and survivorship, with particular emphasis on cancer-related cognitive impairment—including its biomarkers, neurotrophic mechanisms, and integrative oncology interventions such as electroacupuncture—as well as implementation science and population health approaches to symptom management in oncologically diverse patient populations.
Chan has authored over 340 peer-reviewed publications (h-index: 58) and has secured research funding from the National Institutes of Health/National Cancer Institute, the National Medical Research Council of Singapore, the Department of Defense, and numerous other national and international agencies. He has contributed to clinical practice guideline development through organizations including ASCO, ESMO, ISOPP, and MASCC, and serves as an Assistant Editor for Dipiro's Pharmacotherapy: A Pathophysiologic Approach. He currently serves as President-Elect of the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC) and previously served as President of the International Society of Oncology Pharmacy Practitioners (ISOPP).
As Founding Department Chair at UCI, Chan assembled a faculty of more than 20 core professors and 40 volunteer professors to build and launch the Doctor of Pharmacy program, whose inaugural class graduated in May 2025. Earlier in his career, he held faculty and clinical appointments at the National University of Singapore and the National Cancer Centre Singapore, where he built a research program spanning North America and Asia over more than two decades. Chan received his PharmD from Rutgers University, his MPH from the National University of Singapore's Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, and his PhD from Flinders University, Australia.
