Biography
Adrian Preda, M.D., DFAPA, is Professor of Clinical Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) School of Medicine, where he has been a faculty member since 2006. A clinician-researcher and educator, Preda has built his career around the neuroscience of psychotic disorders and neuropsychiatric research, contributing to large-scale multisite imaging studies through consortia including the Function Biomedical Informatics Research Network (FBIRN) and the ENIGMA Schizophrenia Consortium. He has served as Principal Investigator on a range of federally and foundation-funded studies spanning schizophrenia neuroimaging, Alzheimer's disease clinical trials, and mood disorders. His scholarship, reflected in an h-index of 71 and more than 23,000 citations, spans peer-reviewed publications in journals including Science, Nature Communications, Biological Psychiatry, and the American Journal of Psychiatry.
At UCI, Preda has held numerous leadership roles, including Medical Director of the Neuropsychiatry Clinical Research Division, Executive Vice-Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior, Director of Residency Training in Psychiatry, and Director of the Esketamine Clinic. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and an elected member of both the American College of Psychiatry and the Group for the Advancement of Psychiatry. He is also a Fellow of the International College of Neuro-Psychopharmacology.
Preda has been broadly active in psychiatric education and publishing, serving as Editor-in-Chief of Psychiatric News, the flagship publication of the American Psychiatric Association, since 2024, as well as Editor-in-Chief for multiple StatPearls clinical titles and as an associate editor for several Frontiers journals. He received his M.D. from Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, Romania, and completed his psychiatric residency at Yale University School of Medicine, where he also served as Chief Resident.
