Biography
Anyes Taffard, Ph.D., is Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of California, Irvine. An experimental particle physicist, Taffard has spent over two decades studying fundamental particles and forces through high-energy collider experiments, including major contributions to the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider and the CDF experiment at the Tevatron. Her research focuses on searches for supersymmetric particles, Higgs boson physics, and the development of advanced detector systems and trigger technologies.
Taffard is a recipient of the 2025 Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics and the 2013 European Physical Society High Energy and Particle Physics Prize as a member of the ATLAS Collaboration. She received the John G Rutherglen Memorial Prize for outstanding work in experimental High Energy Physics in 2002 and was awarded a Particle Physics Astronomy Research Council Fellowship in the United Kingdom. Taffard has served in numerous leadership roles, including ATLAS Data Quality co-convener during Run 2 startup, US-ATLAS L2 Muon manager for the High-Luminosity LHC upgrade, and co-convener of multiple analysis groups.
Taffard received her Ph.D. in Experimental Particle Physics from Liverpool University in 2002, a Master of Physics with first class honors from Brunel University in 1998, and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Institut Universitaire de Technologie in France in 1994. She has authored or co-authored approximately 1,800 publications as a member of various experimental collaborations and has secured significant funding as principal investigator or co-principal investigator on grants totaling over $100 million, including major NSF and DOE awards for detector upgrades and research programs.
