Biography

Alisa Wray, M.D., M.A.Ed., is Associate Clinical Professor X and Associate Program Director in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine. She also serves as Director of Clinical Skills Assessment and Course Director for Clinical Foundations I-IV. Wray received her M.D. from Tulane University School of Medicine and completed her emergency medicine residency at UC Irvine, where she served as Chief Resident. She completed a fellowship in Multimedia Design Education Technology and earned an M.A. in Educational Multimedia from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. She is board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine.

Wray has developed extensive educational infrastructure at UC Irvine, including asynchronous learning curricula for residents and medical students, simulation programs, and comprehensive clinical skills courses spanning all four years of medical school. She founded and serves as Executive Editor of the Journal of Education and Teaching in Emergency Medicine (JETem). Her scholarship includes over 60 peer-reviewed publications focused on medical education innovation, simulation training, and clinical skills assessment. She has been principal investigator or team member on multiple grants totaling over $1.5 million, including projects on augmented reality in medical education and adaptive learning technologies. In 2020, she received the CORD Academy Scholar Award in the category of Teacher from the Council of Residency Directors.

Wray has received the UC Irvine School of Medicine Golden Apple Teaching Award three times and has been named UCI Emergency Medicine Medical Student Teacher of the Year six times. She serves as President of the California Consortium for the Assessment of Clinical Competency and sits on multiple university committees, including the Academic Senate Committee on Curriculum and Educational Policy. She has mentored over 50 medical students, residents, and junior faculty members and maintains an active clinical practice in the UC Irvine Emergency Department.
