Biography

Jennifer R. Butler, M.D., F.A.C.O.G., is Health Science Clinical Professor, Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs, Director of Perinatal Strategy and Operations, and Director of the OB/GYN Hospitalist Division in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine. She also serves as Director of the OB/GYN Hospitalist Program at the Special Delivery Unit at Children's Hospital of Orange County. Butler received her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Virginia School of Medicine, where she also completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and has served as a Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology since 2004.

Butler has held numerous leadership positions within the Society of OB/GYN Hospitalists (SOGH), including President (2020-2021), Vice President (2019-2020), and Immediate Past President (2021-2022). She currently serves as SOGH Treasurer and Board of Directors member. She served on the SOGH Board of Directors from 2017 to 2022 and was a member of the SOGH Core Competency Leadership Team during that period. Butler also served as a Council Member for the Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology (CREOG) from 2018 to 2022 and has been an American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology Certifying Examiner since 2011. She is co-author of the textbook "OB/GYN Hospital Medicine: Principles and Practice" published by McGraw-Hill Education in 2019.

Butler has received the Orange County Medical Association Physicians of Excellence Award annually from 2020 to 2026. She has received multiple teaching awards throughout her career, including the CREOG Resident Teaching Award at both the University of California, Irvine (2020) and the University of North Carolina (2009), as well as the Association of Professors of Obstetrics and Gynecology (APGO) Excellence in Teaching Award at both the University of North Carolina (2007) and the University of Virginia (2003). She was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha at the University of Virginia Medical School in 1997.
