Craig Murray

Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry, University of California, Irvine

Biography

Craig Murray, Ph.D., is Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of California, Irvine. His research focuses on the reactivity of Criegee intermediates and their role in atmospheric chemistry, as well as photochemical mechanisms studied through state and time-resolved ion imaging techniques. Murray has held research fellowships at the University of Bristol and the University of Glasgow as a Royal Society University Research Fellow, and served as a Camille and Henry Dreyfus Environmental Chemistry Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania.

Murray has co-authored 51 peer-reviewed publications in international journals, including two invited feature articles and a review article. His work has been supported by the Royal Society, the National Science Foundation, and the American Chemical Society Petroleum Research Fund. He has served on NSF and DOE proposal review panels, reviewed NASA Postdoctoral Program applications, and organized the 33rd Informal Symposium on Kinetics and Photochemical Processes in the Atmosphere.

Murray has supervised six Ph.D. graduates and one current Ph.D. student. He has taught courses ranging from general chemistry to advanced physical chemistry and chemical dynamics at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Murray received his Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh, where he also earned a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Chemistry with First Class honors and received the Gillies Prize for most distinguished performance in Chemistry.
