David Ashen-Garry

Biography

David Ashen-Garry, D.O., is Medical Director of Perinatal Connections and Pediatric Palliative Care at Miller Children's Hospital in Long Beach, California, and Assistant Clinical Professor at UC Irvine. He completed his Doctor of Osteopathy degree at Midwestern University Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2018, followed by pediatric residency at Spectrum Health/MSU Helen DeVos Children's Hospital, where he also served as Pediatric Chief Resident. He completed a Hospice and Palliative Care Fellowship at Trinity Health/Mercy Health in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 2023.

Before entering medicine, Ashen-Garry earned a Master of Science in Chemistry from California State University, Los Angeles, where he conducted graduate research in photochemistry. His research on singlet oxygen generation by cyclometalated complexes has been published in Photochemistry and Photobiology and the Journal of the American Chemical Society. He has also contributed to medical imaging research at UCLA, focusing on computer scoring of imaging studies for renal cell carcinoma and prostate cancer.

Ashen-Garry is board certified in General Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics. His clinical experience includes serving as a pediatric hospitalist at Spectrum Health/MSU Helen DeVos Children's Hospital, where he provided clinical oversight and education for pediatric resident teams. He is fluent in Japanese, having spent four years in Japan as a performance supervisor managing English language instruction programs.
