Assistant Specialist, University of California: Irvine

Biography

Dieu-Thanh Le, B.S., is an Assistant Specialist in the Center for Environmental Biology at the University of California, Irvine. Le focuses on habitat restoration and ecological monitoring in Southern California ecosystems, particularly grassland and coastal sage scrub habitats. Le's work involves coordinating restoration efforts at UCI's Ecological Preserve and San Joaquin Marsh, monitoring the long-term effects of climate change on local habitats, and managing multiple ongoing research projects and datasets.

Le has contributed to research on restoration techniques for coastal sage scrub communities, examining the effects of different mulch types on soil moisture and plant recruitment. Le co-authored a publication in Restoration Ecology on native and non-native mulch in container plant restoration. Le has presented research at the Ecological Society of America conference on engaging scientists through participatory science to measure bird attack frequency in restored coastal sage scrub habitat.

Prior to the current position, Le served as an Environmental Service Intern at Crystal Cove State Park and as an Education Specialist at Crystal Cove Conservancy, where Le conducted habitat restoration work, monitored endangered shorebirds, and developed environmental education programs for K-12 students. Le received a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Irvine in 2022.
