Doris Z. Deng
Biography
Doris Z. Deng, M.D., is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Comprehensive Epilepsy Program at the University of California, Irvine. She completed her epilepsy fellowship at Johns Hopkins University and her neurology residency at the University of Texas Southwestern. Deng received her medical degree from the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine with a scholarly concentration in education.
Deng's research spans basic neuroscience and clinical epilepsy. As an undergraduate and medical student, she contributed to neurodegenerative disease research, including work on interferon-gamma signaling in nigrostriatal degeneration and the development of recombinant adeno-associated viruses for central nervous system research. Her current clinical research focuses on epilepsy, including investigations of serum biomarkers in tuberous sclerosis complex, functional connectivity networks in temporal lobe epilepsy surgical outcomes, and the predictive value of ictal high frequency oscillations in responsive neurostimulation therapy.
Deng serves as a sub-investigator on multiple Phase 3 clinical trials evaluating novel therapies for Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. She is board certified in both neurology and epilepsy by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Deng teaches neurology residents and medical students at UC Irvine School of Medicine, covering topics including seizure semiology, functional neurological disorders, and electroencephalography interpretation.
