Biography

Daniel W. Shrey, M.D., M.S., is Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of California, Irvine, and a pediatric neurologist and epileptologist in the Division of Neurology at CHOC Children's Hospital. A physician-scientist specializing in pediatric epilepsy, Shrey focuses on developing computational biomarkers for infantile spasms and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome using electroencephalography-based functional connectivity and quantitative analysis methods. He received his M.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and completed his pediatrics residency, child neurology residency, and clinical neurophysiology fellowship at UCLA and UC Irvine/CHOC Children's.

Shrey has served as principal investigator or co-investigator on multiple funded research projects totaling over $2.5 million, including grants from the National Institutes of Health, the Pediatric Epilepsy Research Foundation, and CHOC institutional awards. His research program examines multimodal biomarker-based predictive models for infantile spasms, high-frequency oscillations for seizure localization in epilepsy surgery, and disease evolution in Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. From 2018 to 2021, he served as Director of Neuroscience Research at CHOC and was selected for the CHOC Physician Scientist Scholars Program from 2019 to 2022.

Shrey is an elected Fellow of the American Epilepsy Society and the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society. He has authored over 35 peer-reviewed publications and numerous conference presentations on computational approaches to pediatric epilepsy. He is an active member of the Pediatric Epilepsy Research Consortium, where he has served as Infantile Spasms Interest Group Leader and currently serves on the Research and Marketing Committees. He holds board certifications in neurology with special qualifications in child neurology, epilepsy, and clinical neurophysiology with intraoperative monitoring.
