Biography
Emilie Chow, M.D., is Health Sciences Clinical Professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine, Department of Medicine at the University of California, Irvine. She serves as Medical Director of Compliance for UCI Health and Medical Director of Pavilion 3, and works as a Clinical Informaticist. Chow received her M.D. from the University of Illinois, Chicago, completed a combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics residency at the University of Michigan, and completed a fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the University of California, Los Angeles. She is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Clinical Informatics.
Chow's clinical and research interests span infectious diseases, clinical informatics, and health technology. Her early research focused on Leptospira bacterial pathogenesis, and her recent work examines the intersection of technology and healthcare delivery, including studies on how online information affects medication adherence, patient perceptions of COVID-19 vaccines, and the use of generative artificial intelligence by medical students and trainees. She is a Co-Investigator on the NIH-funded All of Us Southern California Consortium and a Research Fellow at the Translational Technology Enhancing High Quality Care Research Program. Chow received the American Medical Association Inspiration Award in 2020 and has been recognized by the Orange County Medical Association as a Physician of Excellence.
Chow has extensive experience in medical education, serving as core faculty in the Internal Medicine Primary Care Clinic and as Co-Director of the Med Peds Clinical Elective and Medical Mandarin Elective at UCI School of Medicine. She has taught medical students and residents for nearly two decades, including serving as Clinical Foundations Core Faculty Instructor and preceptor for ambulatory clerkships. She holds Epic Physician Power User and Builder certifications and serves on numerous committees related to clinical informatics, population health, and medical school admissions at UCI.
