Ellie Goldberg Marsh

Biography

Ellie Goldberg Marsh, Ph.D., is Director of the CalTeach Program at the University of California, Irvine. She received her Ph.D. in STEM Education from The University of Texas at Austin, where her dissertation examined how novice teacher educators learn to support equitable teaching practices. Marsh has over a decade of experience in K-12 mathematics education, including eight years teaching high school mathematics in urban schools in Baltimore, Boston, and Providence, where she consistently led students to record achievement levels on standardized assessments.

Marsh served as Founding Director of Mathematics Education for Brown University's Teaching Experiences for Undergraduates Program from 2013 to 2017, developing a model for preparing undergraduate STEM majors to become secondary mathematics teachers. She contributed to a $2.35 million National Science Foundation grant that created this program, modeled after Research Experience for Undergraduates. At the University of Texas at Austin, she served as Project Manager for the Texas Teacher Externships Program, managing partnerships between teachers, schools, and industry stakeholders. Marsh was awarded the Donald D. Harrington Graduate Fellowship from the Office of the President at The University of Texas at Austin from 2019 to 2023.

As an independent consultant, Marsh has worked with organizations including Beyond100K, Texas Instruments, Illustrative Mathematics, and Springpoint Schools on projects related to teacher professional development, curriculum design, and research. She has designed equity-focused, project-based STEM curricula and facilitated professional learning experiences for K-12 and higher education educators. Marsh has taught courses in mathematics education at The University of Texas at Austin, Brown University, and The Johns Hopkins University, and has presented her work at conferences including the American Educational Research Association, the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators, and the UTeach STEM Educators Association Annual Conference.
