Biography

Evelyn Young, Ph.D., is Multiple Subject Coordinator and Lecturer in the Master of Arts in Teaching Program and Education Undergraduate Department at the University of California, Irvine. Young received a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Boston College in 2010. Her work focuses on teacher education, clinical supervision, and education policy, with particular attention to preparing preservice teachers to become culturally and linguistically responsive educators.

Young has served in multiple roles at UC Irvine since 2015, including as Supervisor of Teacher Education from 2016 to 2024, where she mentored student teachers in traditional and Mandarin dual immersion field placements. As Multiple Subject Coordinator, she oversees field placements, course scheduling, and supervisor assignments while facilitating meetings with student representatives, mentor teachers, and program leadership. She teaches courses ranging from multicultural education to educational policy and equity, and supervises student teaching experiences in elementary and bilingual education settings.

Young is an active member of the CTERIN Supervisors of Teacher Education Network Team, where she works with UC directors and supervisors to address problems of practice in university supervision and plan professional development conferences focused on justice-centered supervision. She launched the Supervisor PLC in 2023, a network for university supervisors across multiple MAT programs at UC Irvine that facilitates professional development workshops on supervising for equity.
