Biography
Ezra Ross, J.D., is Professor of Lawyering Skills at the University of California, Irvine, School of Law. He received his J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School in 2000, where he was an Ames Moot Court Semifinalist, and clerked for Judge A. Howard Matz of the United States District Court for the Central District of California. Before joining UCI Law in 2012, Ross practiced as a litigation associate at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart Oliver & Hedges, LLP, and taught as a Lecturer in Law at UCLA School of Law.
Ross's scholarship examines the ethical dimensions of legal skills instruction, including the role of morality in the lawyering skills classroom and the hidden curriculum in legal education. His work has appeared in the Journal of Legal Education, Legal Writing: Journal of the Legal Writing Institute, and Legal Communication & Rhetoric: JALWD. He has also written about faculty pro bono work and, with Martin Pritikin, co-authored a study on the underenforcement of corporate and white-collar fines and penalties that was cited by The New York Times, Reuters, and other national media outlets.
Ross has presented his work at conferences in the United States and internationally, including in Japan, Italy, and the United Kingdom. He was selected to deliver plenary talks at the Legal Writing Institute conferences in 2022 and 2023. Throughout his academic career, Ross has maintained an active pro bono practice, supervising students in dozens of employment matters and federal civil rights appeals, and representing indigent clients in unlawful detainer and federal benefits administration cases.
