Biography

Freddy Francisco-Ramos is a Assistant Specialist in the Department of Environmental & Occupational Health at the University of California, Irvine, where he serves as a community based researcher and point of contact for project coordination on the I-CLEAN Study. In this role, he manages daily workflow assignments for study participants, student researchers, coordinates between faculty, field teams, community partners, and participants, and oversees recruitment and data collection events. Francisco-Ramos received a B.A. in Environmental Science & Policy from the University of California, Irvine in 2023 with Honors in the Department of Physical Sciences.

During his undergraduate studies, Francisco-Ramos worked as a GIS Research Assistant in the Department of Environmental System Science, where he used ArcGIS systems to analyze the effectiveness of the Newport Back Bay Conservancy's efforts to protect local wildlife from invasive species and to visualize palm oil concession distribution in Cameroon using satellite imagery. He completed the CLIMATE Justice Initiative Certificate of Completion in 2023, a program that trains postbaccalaureate researchers in climate and geoscience skills within a community-based research framework. Francisco-Ramos is bilingual in Spanish and English, which he has utilized in his work with the Kennedy Commission to engage with Spanish-speaking community members on affordable housing advocacy in Orange County.

Francisco-Ramos has experience in sustainability education and community engagement, having served as EarthReps Coordinator for UCI Housing, where he helped teach a university course on sustainability and worked with UCI's Sustainability Department to integrate sustainability into housing culture. He has presented his research on mapping the impact of sea level rise on soil surface texture in the Upper Newport Bay Ecological Reserve at multiple symposiums and has been involved in addressing food insecurity among students through his work with Community Table @ UCI.
