Biography

Graham Stephenson, M.D., is Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of California, Irvine, where he also serves as Medical Director of Urgent Care Services and Clinical Informaticist for UC Irvine Health. He completed his M.D. at UC Irvine School of Medicine, followed by emergency medicine residency at UC Irvine Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident for Academics. He subsequently completed an ACGME Clinical Informatics Fellowship at UC Irvine Medical Center and is board certified in both emergency medicine and clinical informatics.

Stephenson's work focuses on the intersection of emergency medicine and health information technology, with particular emphasis on electronic health record optimization, clinical decision support systems, and artificial intelligence integration in clinical workflows. He has led numerous informatics initiatives at UC Irvine Health, including the development of standardized note templates, implementation of AI-assisted documentation tools, integration of large language models for clinical summarization, and comprehensive Epic system builds for the new urgent care facility. He chairs multiple committees within the Epic Reimagined initiative, including Sepsis Reimagined, Physician Advisory Council/Inpatient Transition, and Urgent Care Reimagined, and serves as a voting member on several governance committees addressing clinical decision support, ambulatory and inpatient workflows, and patient flow optimization.

His research has been published in journals including the Journal of Medical Internet Research, Applied Clinical Informatics, Clinical Practice and Cases in Emergency Medicine, and Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science. Stephenson has presented his work at national conferences including the American Medical Informatics Association Clinical Informatics Conference and the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, where his abstract on evaluation and management guidelines received recognition at the Western Regional meeting. He provides clinical teaching to residents and medical students during emergency department shifts and delivers regular lectures on clinical informatics, Epic optimization, and emergency medicine billing practices.
