Ravinder Gulia

Assistant Project Scientist, University of California, Irvine

Biography

Ravinder Gulia, Ph.D., is an Assistant Project Scientist in the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at the University of California, Irvine. A neuroscientist studying neurodegenerative diseases, Gulia focuses on synaptic activity-dependent transcription in neurodegeneration and the preclinical evaluation of therapeutic approaches for Alzheimer's and Huntington's disease. His research examines mechanisms of neuronal dysfunction and potential interventions targeting excitotoxicity and receptor-mediated pathways.

Gulia's work spans multiple neurodegenerative conditions, including Huntington's disease, Alzheimer's disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis/frontotemporal dementia. His research has contributed to understanding how PPAR-delta activation affects neuronal hyperactivity in Huntington's disease models and how TDP-43 dysregulation impacts RNA processing in ALS/FTD. Earlier in his career, he investigated the role of ubiquitination in glutamate receptor trafficking and the mechanisms regulating metabotropic glutamate receptor endocytosis and trafficking.

Gulia received a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Mohali in 2019. He completed postdoctoral training at Duke University and the University of California, Irvine, before assuming his current position. His work has been published in journals including Neuron, The Journal of Clinical Investigation, Journal of Neuroscience, and Journal of Biological Chemistry.
