Hallie Yong
Biography
Hallie Yong is a Junior Specialist in the Kim Stress, Coping, and Health in Context Lab at the University of California, Irvine, where she is also completing a Master of Public Health with a concentration in Community Health and Health Equity. Her research focuses on Asian American health and mental health, with particular attention to culturally competent psychotherapy for Mandarin- and Vietnamese-speaking populations and the experiences of advanced cancer patients and survivors.
Yong's research experience spans qualitative and quantitative methods across multiple institutions. At UCI, she conducts reflexive thematic analysis on healthcare professionals' perspectives of cultural fit in psychotherapy programs and reviews translations of Mandarin interview recordings to ensure cultural nuance is accurately documented. Prior to joining UCI, she contributed to research at USC's REACH Lab on children's physical activity and health technology interventions and at USC's Department of Population and Public Health Sciences, where she analyzed social media content related to e-cigarette marketing and youth-focused appeal.
Beyond research, Yong serves as Co-Executive Director of Medical, Educational Missions & Outreach (M.E.M.O.), a nonprofit through which she coordinates operations across 75+ individuals and leads an annual fundraising gala with over 500 guests that raises nearly $250,000 for humanitarian health programs in Southern California and Vietnam. She also holds an internship at the Asian American Senior Citizens Service Center, where she founded and leads a youth-led public health campaign program, and served as a Course Reader at the Joe C. Wen School of Population and Public Health at UCI. Yong received a Bachelor of Science in Global Health from the University of Southern California in 2024.
