Hannah H. Nam
Biography
Hannah H. Nam, M.D., M.S.C.I., is Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine and Medical Director of Transplant and Immunocompromised Host Antimicrobial Stewardship in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of California, Irvine. Her research focuses on infections in immunocompromised populations and donor-derived infections in solid organ transplantation. Nam received her M.D. from Penn State College of Medicine and completed her Infectious Diseases fellowship and Master of Science in Clinical Investigation at Northwestern University, where she trained as an NIH-funded fellow through the Infectious Diseases Education and Science (NuIDeas) Training Grant.
Nam has published extensively on donor-derived infections in solid organ transplantation, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in adults, community-acquired respiratory viruses in transplant recipients, and SARS-CoV-2 viral dynamics. She has contributed chapters to several reference texts, including Mandell, Douglas, and Bennett's Principles and Practice of Infectious Diseases and Irwin and Rippe's Critical Care Medicine. Nam serves as an ad hoc reviewer for multiple journals including Clinical Infectious Diseases, American Journal of Transplantation, and Journal of Infectious Diseases.
Nam is active in national and international transplant infectious diseases organizations, serving as Co-Chair of the American Society of Transplantation Infectious Diseases Community of Practice Frailty in Solid Organ Transplant Work Group and participating in multiple committees including the American Society of Transplantation Vaccination Guidelines Committee, West Coast Transplant ID Workgroup, and The Transplantation Society - Transplant Infectious Diseases Social Network Committee. She received the Infectious Diseases Society of America Early Investigator Award in 2025 and the Teaching Excellence Award from the Division of Infectious Diseases at UC Irvine in 2025. Nam served as Co-Director of the Medical Microbiology course at UC Irvine School of Medicine and is Vice Chair of the Continuing Medical Education Committee at UC Irvine.
