Anjali Y. Hari
Biography
Anjali Y. Hari, M.D., is Health Sciences Assistant Clinical Professor in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Assistant Professor in Population Health and Disease Prevention in the School of Public Health at the University of California, Irvine. She received her M.D. from the University of California, Irvine, completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of California, Los Angeles, and completed her fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at the University of California, Irvine. Hari's work focuses on cervical cancer screening and treatment in resource-limited settings and molecular characterization of cervical cancer. She was a research collaborator on the Beau Biden NIH Moonshot Grant, which examined genomic and molecular biomarkers in recurrent and metastatic cervical cancer patients from the NRG Oncology/Gynecologic Oncology Group protocol 240.
Hari founded and has directed a cervical cancer screen-and-treat program in Mwanza, Tanzania since 2015, screening over 1,800 patients and training more than 25 healthcare workers in visual inspection with acetic acid and cryotherapy techniques. She also established ultrasound education programs at Tandabui Institute of Health Sciences and Technology in Mwanza, instructing over 300 healthcare workers over six years. Her research has examined risk factors for cervical cancer in distinct populations in Tanzania, outcomes of cervical cancer navigation programs, and survival models for ovarian cancer care.
As Director of Global Health for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UC Irvine, Hari created and supervises the department's first global health elective and leads collaborative research projects with Bugando Medical Center in Tanzania. She has developed a standardized Gynecologic Oncology curriculum for residents and serves as a mentor for resident research projects. Hari is fluent in English, Spanish, and Kannada, with basic proficiency in Swahili.
