Huanjun Ding
Biography
Huanjun Ding, Ph.D., DABR, is Associate Adjunct Professor in the Department of Radiological Sciences at the University of California, Irvine, and Hospital Radiation Physicist at UCI Health. Ding received a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Rochester in 2010. His research focuses on spectral imaging technologies for breast cancer diagnosis and cardiovascular disease detection, particularly the development of photon-counting detector systems for breast CT and mammography applications.
Ding has led multiple research projects on the design and development of dedicated spectral breast CT systems based on energy-resolved photon-counting detectors. His work includes breast density quantification using dual-energy and spectral mammography techniques, contrast-enhanced breast imaging, and radiation dose reduction through iterative reconstruction methods. He conducted a clinical study involving over 5,000 patients examining the correlation between breast arterial calcification detected on mammograms and cardiovascular disease risk, contributing to the understanding of breast arterial calcification as a cardiovascular risk marker in postmenopausal women.
Ding holds dual board certification from the American Board of Radiology in Diagnostic Medical Physics and Nuclear Medical Physics. As Hospital Radiation Physicist at UCI Health, he provides diagnostic medical physics services across multiple imaging modalities including CT, MRI, mammography, nuclear medicine, and interventional radiology equipment. He developed a new IR-centered Y-90 radioembolization therapy program and has authored two book chapters on photon-counting computed tomography.
