Biography

Hillary Zieve, M.D., FAAP, is Health Sciences Assistant Clinical Professor (Step IV) and Deputy Program Director in the UCI-CHOC Pediatric Residency Program, Department of Pediatrics, at the University of California, Irvine. She also serves as a pediatrician at CHOC Clinica Para Niños and Boys & Girls Club Clinic with CHOC Medical Group in Santa Ana, California. Zieve received her Doctor of Medicine from the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine in 2014. She completed her pediatric residency at UCI-CHOC in 2017, and served as Chief Resident from 2017-2018.

Zieve has secured over $1.1 million in Song-Brown Healthcare Workforce Training Program grants from the California Department of Health Care Access and Information between 2022 and 2028. She co-created and directs the Health Equity, Anti-Racism, Trauma-informed care (HEARTi) Program, co-developed the PEDS-RISE program and co-created and directs Foundations in the Art of Medicine, enhancing both resident and faculty education with in the UCI/CHOC Pediatric Residency Program.

As Chair of the UCI/CHOC Lactation Task Force, she drafted and implemented the residency's official lactation support policy and has supported 12 lactating residents over three years. She also co-directs the Pediatric Residency Primary Care Pathway, which has graduated over 30 residents with a Distinction in Primary Care over three academic years.

Zieve co-founded Team KiPOW OC in 2015, an academic-community partnership that uses medical and undergraduate student mentors to implement health policy in underfunded schools. Her research on this school-based intervention has demonstrated statistically significant improvements in BMI, blood pressure, and behavioral changes in participating fifth-grade students, with published findings in Preventing Chronic Disease.

Through Team KiPOW and the UCI/CHOC Residency program she has mentored undergraduates, medical students and residents, many of whom have continued in primary care or pursued fellowship training.

Zieve is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and served as AAP Section on Early Career Physicians Chapter 4, District IX, Representative from 2019 to 2023.
