Irmina Gradus-Pizlo
Biography
Irmina Gradus-Pizlo, M.D., FACC, FASE, is Clinical Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine. She received her medical degree from the Medical Academy in Warsaw, Poland, and completed her fellowship in cardiology at the Krannert Institute of Cardiology at Indiana University School of Medicine. Gradus-Pizlo is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases, Advanced Heart Failure and Heart Transplant Cardiology, and Adults with Congenital Heart Disease.
Gradus-Pizlo's research has focused on two main areas: non-invasive imaging of coronary arteries using high-resolution transthoracic echocardiography and heart failure management. Her work on detecting subclinical coronary atherosclerosis through echocardiographic visualization of coronary arteries has been published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and other journals. She has served as principal investigator on multiple clinical trials in heart failure, including CHARM, A-HeFT, and RED-HF, and was principal investigator on an American Heart Association grant examining coronary artery imaging. She has also contributed to research on cognitive dysfunction in heart failure patients as a co-investigator on NIH-funded studies.
Prior to joining UC Irvine in 2017, Gradus-Pizlo spent 18 years at Indiana University School of Medicine, where she served as Associate Professor of Medicine and held multiple administrative positions including Medical Director of the Indiana University Health Advanced Heart Care Program and Co-Director of the Indiana University Health System Cardiovascular Strategic Service Line. At UC Irvine, she has served as Cardiovascular Fellowship Program Director and currently directs the Integrative Cardiology Fellowship Program. She is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American Society of Echocardiography.
