Julian Deline

Biography

Julian Deline is an Assistant Specialist in the UCI AMS Keck Lab at the University of California, Irvine, where he works under the direction of Dr. John Southon. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and History from UCLA in 2017 and his Associate of Arts in General Education from Saddleback College in 2015. During his undergraduate studies, Deline completed an Archaeological Field School in Trim, Ireland in 2016 and volunteered at the UCLA Channel Islands Archaeology Lab from 2015 to 2017.

Deline's professional experience spans over seven years in archaeological investigation and laboratory analysis. He began his career at the UCI AMS Lab in August 2017 as a Junior Specialist, later transitioning to business management roles at Thalia Surf and Landmark Surf Co. in Laguna Beach before returning to the UCI AMS Lab as a Junior Specialist in January 2021. He was promoted to Assistant Specialist in January 2023. His work involves sample preparation and processing, sample graphitization, and supporting radiocarbon dating research.

Deline's technical expertise includes archaeological survey, assessment, and excavation methods, as well as laboratory safety protocols and OSHA compliance. He maintains certifications in CPR, First Aid, and AED. His field experience includes participation in the Black Friary Archaeological Field School in Ireland and ongoing research contributions to the UCI AMS facility, which provides radiocarbon dating services for archaeological and environmental research projects.
