Jeff Hruby

Biography

Jeff Hruby, M.A., is a Lecturer in the Department of Education at the University of California, Irvine, where he has taught since 2004. He serves as Co-Director of the Irvine Mathematics Project, a position he has held since 2014, where he designs and leads professional development for mathematics teachers from elementary through high school levels. Hruby earned his Master of Arts in Mathematics from California State University, Fullerton, and holds a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Mathematics and History from Northwestern University.

Hruby has extensive experience in K-12 mathematics education, having served as a mathematics teacher and department chair at both the middle and high school levels. At Carr Intermediate School, where he worked from 2004 to 2012, he led the implementation of standards-based instruction and evaluation across all grade levels. During his tenure, the school's mathematics proficiency rates increased from 23% to 58%, exceeding the state average of 49% for grades 6-8.

Prior to his work at UCI, Hruby taught mathematics at Santa Ana High School from 1991 to 1999, where he taught courses ranging from Pre-Algebra to Advanced Placement Calculus. He also served as Secondary Mathematics Coordinator and Resource Teacher for the Santa Ana Unified School District, where he co-chaired the district secondary mathematics adoption committee and coordinated staff development. From 1999 to 2004, he served as Co-Director of the Irvine Mathematics Project and Director of the Community Teaching Fellowships in Mathematics and Science program at UCI, securing over $1,000,000 in grant funding.
