Jeffrey Orlinsky

Biography

Jeffrey Orlinsky is a researcher in the Luptak Lab in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of California, Irvine. His research focuses on the RNA World Hypothesis and evolution, with current work examining R2 non-LTR retrotransposon elements through bioinformatics approaches and studying the upstream sequence of the IIV (6) DNA Directed Ribosome.

Prior to joining UCI, Orlinsky spent 36 years as a biology teacher in the Downey Unified School District, where he taught courses ranging from introductory biology to AP Biology and developed a Molecular Biology Summer School Program. During his teaching career, he served in multiple leadership roles, including Science Department Chair for nearly three decades and Association President for four years.

Orlinsky also served as Chair of the California Teacher's Association Assessment and Testing Committee from 1994 to 1998. He received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of California, San Diego in 1987.
