Biography

Karen N. Tran-Harding, M.D., is and Assistant Clinical Professor and the Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program Director in the Department of Radiological Sciences at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center. She received her M.D. from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine in 2013. Prior to her radiology training, Tran-Harding completed two years of residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Kentucky, providing her with a unique clinical perspective that informs her work in abdominal and gynecologic imaging.

Dr. Tran-Harding completed her diagnostic radiology residency at the University of Kentucky from 2015 to 2019, followed by an abdominal imaging fellowship at UC Irvine in 2019-2020. She has served as Abdominal Imaging Fellowship Director from 2020 to 2025 and assumed the role of Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program Director in 2025. Her clinical and research interests focus on abdominal imaging, with particular emphasis on gynecologic conditions, hepatocellular carcinoma, and the application of artificial intelligence to prostate and renal imaging.

Karen has authored or co-authored over a dozen peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, including reviews on endometriosis, gynecologic emergencies, and hepatocellular carcinoma treatment response. She has presented more than 20 educational exhibits at national meetings including RSNA, ARRS, and the Society of Abdominal Radiology. She serves as a reviewer for multiple radiology journals and is a member of the Program Directors of Abdominal Radiology. Dr. Tran-Harding is fluent in English and volunteers at Lestonnac Free Clinic, where she interprets ultrasound examinations.
