Kiarash Golshani
Biography
Kiarash Golshani, M.D., is Health Sciences Clinical Professor, Vice Chair for Administrative Affairs, and Director of the Neurological Surgery Residency Program in the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine. He also serves as Co-Director of the Neurointerventional Surgery Fellowship Program. Golshani completed his residency in neurological surgery at Oregon Health and Sciences University and a fellowship in neurointerventional radiology at Duke University Medical Center. He is board-certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery.
Golshani's clinical and research focus centers on cerebrovascular neurosurgery, including the surgical and endovascular management of cerebral aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, and stroke. He has served as principal investigator or co-investigator on multiple clinical trials, including the SCENT Trial evaluating the Surpass Intracranial Aneurysm Embolization System, the RAGE trial on hydrogel coils for ruptured aneurysms, and CREST-2 examining carotid revascularization for asymptomatic stenosis. His research has examined the use of artificial intelligence tools to improve follow-up compliance for patients with unruptured intracranial aneurysms and the application of stent-assisted coil embolization techniques for ruptured aneurysms.
Golshani has received the Physician of Excellence award from the Orange County Medical Association annually from 2019 through 2025. He maintains active staff appointments at UC Irvine Health and the Tibor Rubin Veterans Affairs Medical Center, where he previously served as Section Chief of Neurological Surgery. Golshani is a member of the Society of Neurological Surgeons, the Society of Neurointerventional Surgery, and the California Association of Neurological Surgeons. He received his M.D. from Oregon Health & Sciences University.
