Keyianoosh Zad Paydar

Biography

Keyian Z. Paydar, MD, FACS, is Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery in the Department of Plastic Surgery at the University of California, Irvine, where he has served since 2008. He also serves as Director of Spinal Cord Injury at the Tibor Rubin VA Medical Center in Long Beach, California. Paydar received his MD from the University of Tennessee, Memphis College of Medicine and completed his residency training in general surgery and plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Paydar's clinical and research work focuses on breast reconstruction and wound healing in complex patient populations, particularly those with spinal cord injuries and diabetes. He has developed techniques using fenestrated acellular dermal matrix in breast reconstruction, which have been the subject of multiple publications and two issued U.S. patents. His research on venous thromboembolism in spinal cord injury patients and the role of hypoxia-inducible factors in diabetic wound healing has contributed to improved surgical outcomes in these populations. He has authored or co-authored over 70 peer-reviewed publications and has presented his work at national and international conferences.

Throughout his academic career, Paydar has maintained an active role in resident and medical student education at UC Irvine, serving as Co-Director of the Core Curriculum for plastic surgery residents and Director of the Microsurgery Skills Lab. He has mentored over 60 plastic surgery residents and numerous medical students and research fellows. Paydar is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
