Biography

Matthew J. Landry, Ph.D., RDN, DipACLM, FAND, FAHA, is Assistant Professor in the Department of Global Health & Biobehavioral Sciences and Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology & Biostatistics, Joe C. Wen School of Population & Public Health, Samueli College of Health Sciences, at the University of California, Irvine. A registered dietitian nutritionist and Certified Lifestyle Medicine Professional, Landry conducts research focused on plant-based dietary patterns and their cardiometabolic effects, as well as food insecurity and nutrition equity.

Landry completed postdoctoral training at Stanford University's School of Medicine, Stanford Prevention Research Center, including an NIH/NHLBI T32 Fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease Prevention (T32HL007034) and a position with the Plant-Based Diet Initiative. His research has been supported by the American Heart Association, through a Career Development Award examining longitudinal changes in lifestyle behaviors and cardiovascular health during the transition to fatherhood, as well as by the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities and other federal and foundation sources. He is a Fellow of the American Heart Association and a Fellow of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. He received the American Society for Nutrition Outstanding Early Career I Professional Award in 2025 and the Obesity Society Ethan Sims Young Investigator Award in 2022, and he serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior, the Journal of Hunger and Environmental Nutrition, and the International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity.

Landry is President-Elect of the California Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and serves as the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' Organizational Representative to the American Heart Association's Nutrition Committee. He received a Ph.D. in Nutritional Sciences from The University of Texas at Austin.
