Biography

Linda Thuy Anh Doan, MD, PhD, is Co-Director of Dermatopathology, Medical Director of the Dermatology Clinical Lab at Gavin Herbert Eye Institute, and Associate Professor of Dermatology and Pathology at the University of California, Irvine. She earned her PhD in Developmental and Cell Biology from UC Irvine, where she studied morphogen signaling gradients in telencephalic development, and completed her MD at the same institution, graduating with distinction in research. Following an internal medicine internship at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center, she completed dermatology residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and a dermatopathology fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University.

Doan's research spans basic science and clinical dermatopathology. Her doctoral work on BMP signaling during mouse embryogenesis resulted in publications in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and PLoS ONE. Her clinical research focuses on melanoma, including surgical margins for lentigo maligna, clinicopathologic patterns of melanocytic lesions, and the development of diagnostic tools using deep learning algorithms and digital pathology platforms. She has authored book chapters, and over 40 peer-reviewed publications and numerous abstracts, with work appearing in journals such as the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, American Journal of Dermatopathology, and Journal of Investigative Dermatology.

Doan serves as a regular faculty lecturer at the Jefferson Dermatopathology Board Review Course and has been recognized with the Orange County Medical Association Physician of Excellence award in 2025 and 2026. She serves as a reviewer for multiple journals including the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology and Dermatologic Therapy. She has developed curriculum for medical students at the University of Global Health Equity in Rwanda where she volunteers as teaching faculty and serves as a faculty mentor for the Resident and Fellow Scholars Academy at UC Irvine.
