Ken Y Lin, MD, PhD
Biography
Ken Y. Lin, M.D., Ph.D., is Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology, Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Director of Clinical Research, and Director of Medical Education at the University of California, Irvine. Lin received his M.D. and Ph.D. in Biophysics from Harvard Medical School and Harvard University, where he trained in the Department of Radiology at Massachusetts General Hospital, and completed his ophthalmology residency and glaucoma fellowship at UC Irvine.
Lin's research focuses on applying machine learning and deep learning to glaucoma diagnosis and treatment, as well as developing novel imaging and drug delivery technologies for ophthalmology. He has received the American Glaucoma Society Clinician Scientist Award and the American Glaucoma Society Mentoring for Advancement for Physician-Scientists Award. Lin holds multiple patents, including innovations in functional imaging of episcleral vessels and methods for identifying trabecular meshwork structures using artificial intelligence. His work has resulted in the development of smartphone-based deep learning applications for medication identification and real-time surgical guidance systems.
Lin serves as an Oral Board Examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the International Education Committee of the American Glaucoma Society. He has trained ten glaucoma fellows and mentored over 80 undergraduate, graduate, and medical students in research projects spanning artificial intelligence applications, surgical outcomes, and drug delivery systems. Lin has published over 35 peer-reviewed articles and delivered invited lectures internationally on machine learning applications in ophthalmology and glaucoma management.
