Mahbod Jafarvand Giglou
Biography
Mahbod Jafarvand Giglou, M.D., is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Radiology at the University of California, Irvine. She received her Doctor of Medicine degree from Iran University of Medical Sciences in 2015 and completed her Nuclear Medicine residency at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she served as Chief Resident from 2021 to 2024. She is board certified by the American Board of Nuclear Medicine.
Jafarvand's research focuses on molecular imaging applications in oncology, particularly PSMA PET/CT imaging for prostate cancer and novel PET tracers for various malignancies. Her work has examined the use of PSMA PET/CT in patients following focal therapy for prostate cancer, non-oncologic uptake patterns on FAPI PET/CT imaging, and FES PET imaging in estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer. Prior to her nuclear medicine training, she conducted research at the University of Washington Medical Center and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, where she investigated esophageal temperature monitoring during cardiac ablation procedures and breast cancer diagnostic capacity in resource-limited settings.
Jafarvand is a member of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, the American College of Nuclear Medicine, the Radiological Society of North America, and the American College of Radiology. She has presented her research at national conferences including the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging annual meeting and the Radiological Society of North America annual meeting. Her current clinical and research activities include expanded access programs for novel PET tracers in glioma imaging and clinical trials evaluating radionuclide therapy for meningioma.
