Moises Perea-Vega
Biography
Moises Perea-Vega is an Assistant Specialist at UCI Nature at the University of California, Irvine, where he has worked since 2020. He received a B.S. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of California, Irvine in 2019. His work focuses on field ecology, restoration science, and the management of coastal sage scrub and grassland ecosystems in Southern California.
Perea-Vega manages multiple field experiments examining the effects of climate change on California ecosystems, including the Loma Ridge Global Change Experiment, which investigates water and nitrogen manipulation in coastal sage scrub and grassland habitats. He has contributed to research on drought impacts and invasive species dynamics, co-authoring a publication in Ecology on how long-term drought promotes invasive species by reducing wildfire severity. His applied work includes developing weed management plans for restoration sites and cultivating native plants for experimental and restoration projects.
Perea-Vega has presented his research at conferences including the California Native Plant Society Conference and the Ecological Society of America. He holds a Qualified Applicator License from the Department of Pesticide Regulation and has provided mentorship to undergraduate students through the Center for Environmental Biology Internship program. His work spans field research, restoration implementation, and wildlife monitoring, including programs for birds, insects, small mammals, and the western pond turtle.
