Angela Myers
Biography
Angela Myers, M.D., is a Health Sciences Associate Clinical Professor and Clinical Geneticist in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of California, Irvine. She received her medical degree from Colegio Mayor de Nuestra Señora del Rosario in Bogotá, Colombia, and completed a Medical Genetics Residency and Medical Biochemical Genetics Fellowship at Stanford University School of Medicine. Myers is board-certified by the American Board of Medical Genetics and the American Board of Family Medicine.
Before entering clinical genetics, Myers spent nearly a decade in molecular diagnostics research and development. As a Principal Scientist at Roche Molecular Systems, she led the development of multiplex PCR and allele-specific oligonucleotide hybridization kits for detecting CFTR mutations, including the LINEAR ARRAY CF-Gold assay. At Applied Biosystems, she contributed to the development of the ViroSeq HIV-1 genotyping system. Her work resulted in multiple patents for HIV sequencing and genotyping methods. She has also collaborated on international research projects studying genetic diseases including Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, Cystic Fibrosis, and Hemophilia A across Latin America.
Myers's clinical and research focus includes metabolic disorders, RASopathies, and rare genetic syndromes. Her publications address perinatal features of Noonan syndrome and related conditions, respiratory complications in Costello syndrome, and novel genetic discoveries including loss-of-function mutations in FRRS1L and FOXP1 haploinsufficiency. She teaches medical genetics to pediatric residents and fellows at UC Irvine, presenting on topics including amino acid disorders, organic acid disorders, and mitochondrial and peroxisomal diseases.
