Biography

Bin Nan, Ph.D., is Chancellor's Professor in the Department of Statistics and Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of California, Irvine. Nan received a Ph.D. in Biostatistics from the University of Washington in 2001. His research focuses on developing statistical methods for survival analysis and high-dimensional data, with applications to aging research, Alzheimer's disease, and neuroimaging.

Nan is an elected member of the International Statistical Institute and a Fellow of both the American Statistical Association and the Institute of Mathematical Statistics. He has served as a standing member of NIH study sections and on the Board of Directors for both the International Chinese Statistical Association and the American Statistical Association. Nan has been Associate Editor for several journals including the Journal of the American Statistical Association and Lifetime Data Analysis.

Nan has published over 150 peer-reviewed articles in journals such as the Annals of Statistics, Biometrika, and the Journal of the American Statistical Association. He has been Principal Investigator on multiple NIH and NSF grants, including an NIH RF1 grant for statistical methods in Alzheimer's research. Nan has advised 18 doctoral students to completion, with several receiving awards including the ENAR Distinguished Student Paper Award and the ICSA J.P. Hsu Memorial Award.
