Biography

Sergey A. Nizkorodov, Ph.D., is Professor of Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry at the University of California, Irvine. He received his undergraduate degree in biochemistry from Novosibirsk State University, Russia, in 1993 and his Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of Basel, Switzerland, in 1997. After postdoctoral research at the University of Colorado at Boulder and the California Institute of Technology, he joined the UCI faculty in 2002. Nizkorodov's research focuses on the chemistry of particulate matter in ambient and indoor atmospheres using spectroscopic and mass-spectrometric techniques.

Nizkorodov is an elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Association for Aerosol Research. He served as President of the American Association for Aerosol Research in 2020-21. He has received the Coblentz Award from the Coblentz Society, the Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award, the Ascent Award from the American Geophysical Union, and a Fulbright Scholarship. At UCI, he has been recognized with the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Fostering Undergraduate Research, the Daniel G. Aldrich, Jr. Distinguished University Service Award, and the Professor of the Year Award.

Nizkorodov has mentored over 100 graduate, undergraduate, high school, and postdoctoral students in his research group. He has taught general chemistry, analytical chemistry, and atmospheric chemistry courses at UCI. He has served in various leadership roles at UCI, including as Vice-Chair for Academic Programs and Curriculum in the Department of Chemistry and as Co-Director of the AirUCI Organized Research Unit.
