Biography

Nassib Shammas, M.S., is an Associate Specialist at the Keck Carbon Cycle AMS Lab. Shammas specializes in isotope ratio mass spectrometry and the radiometric analysis of environmental and archaeological samples. His work involves the operation and maintenance of analytical instrumentation, as well as the pretreatment, combustion, hydrolysis, and graphitization of samples for radiocarbon dating.

Shammas has contributed to research in marine geochemistry and archaeological science, with publications in Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B. His research has included the development of ultrafiltration methods for analyzing marine dissolved organic matter and investigations into pretreatment protocols for archaeological bone collagen radiocarbon dating. He has participated in projects analyzing seawater through ultrafiltration and radiometric techniques.

Shammas received an M.S. in Environmental Science from the University of Idaho and a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of California, Irvine. He holds OSHA certifications in 40-hour HAZWOPER and as an Environmental Specialist. At the Keck Carbon Cycle AMS Lab, he manages laboratory operations, trains personnel, and oversees the handling of hazardous materials and laboratory consumables.
