Biography
Peyman Borghei, M.D., is Chief of the Section of Interventional Radiology at VA Long Beach Medical Center and Clinical Associate Professor of Radiology at the University of California, Irvine. He received his medical degree from Tehran University of Medical Sciences, completed his radiology residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Medical Center, and completed an interventional radiology fellowship at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at Washington University School of Medicine.
Borghei has served as principal investigator or co-principal investigator on multiple clinical trials, including the PREMIUM Study examining liver cancer screening methods in veterans, trials evaluating prostatic artery embolization for benign prostatic hyperplasia, and studies of endovascular devices for abdominal aortic aneurysm repair. He has also been principal investigator on trials investigating vonapanitase for improving arteriovenous fistula patency in chronic kidney disease patients and peripheral artery disease treatment. He serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology and Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology, and has been invited as an oral board examiner for the Interventional Radiology/Diagnostic Radiology certification exam.
Borghei has authored book chapters on CT angiography, anatomic variants in abdominal imaging, and musculoskeletal procedures. His research has been published in journals including Radiology, Radiographics, and Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology. At VA Long Beach, he established the radioembolization Y90 program and the stellate ganglion block program for patients with PTSD, and leads the taskforce for managing patients with pulmonary embolism.
