Biography

Piyanuch Kongtim, M.D., Ph.D., is Associate Clinical Professor in the Division of Hematology/Oncology, Department of Medicine, School of Medicine at the University of California, Irvine. Kongtim received a Ph.D. in Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics from Thammasat University in Thailand, where she also completed her medical degree with First Class Honors and her hematology residency training. She completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in the Department of Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapy at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Kongtim's research focuses on allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, with particular emphasis on haploidentical transplantation, donor selection, and the development of prognostic models to predict transplant outcomes. She has developed several novel risk stratification tools, including the Hematopoietic Cell Transplant-Composite Risk (HCT-CR) model and disease-specific risk models for acute myeloid leukemia. Her work has contributed to consensus guidelines on donor-specific anti-HLA antibodies in haploidentical transplantation through the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation and the American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy. She serves as principal investigator or co-investigator on multiple clinical trials investigating conditioning regimens, graft-versus-host disease prevention, and cellular therapy approaches in stem cell transplantation.

Kongtim has authored over 60 peer-reviewed publications and numerous abstracts presented at international conferences. She serves on the editorial board of Frontiers in Immunology and as a reviewer for multiple transplantation and hematology journals. She received the Thammasat University Distinguished Alumni Award in 2025 and the Thammasat University Outstanding Dissertation Award in 2021. Kongtim also received two Thai Royal Decoration Awards from His Majesty the King of Thailand. In addition to her clinical and research roles, she serves as an ad hoc statistician for the UCI Chao Comprehensive Cancer Center Biostatistics Shared Resource.
