Prabodh Kumar Pandey

Assistant Researcher at Department of Radiological Sciences

Biography

Prabodh Kumar Pandey, Ph.D., is Assistant Researcher in the Department of Radiological Sciences at the University of California, Irvine. He received his Ph.D. in Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in 2020, where his dissertation focused on reconstruction and characterization algorithms for optoacoustic and fluorescence-optoacoustic tomography. His research centers on radiation-induced acoustic imaging and tomography, with particular emphasis on developing physics-informed AI models and model-based reconstruction algorithms for in vivo dosimetry during cancer radiotherapy.

Pandey is Principal Investigator on an NIH/NCI Research Specialist Award (R50 CA283816, 2024-2029) supporting his work on quantitative in vivo dosimetry for radiotherapy using model-based X-ray-induced acoustic computed tomography. He also serves as Key Personnel on an NIH/NCI R37 grant focused on translating 4D in vivo dosimetry approaches for radiation therapy. His research has contributed to the development of novel imaging modalities including protoacoustic radiography and protoacoustic microscopy, as well as three-dimensional reconstruction methods for radiation-induced acoustic computed tomography.

Pandey has authored or co-authored 27 peer-reviewed journal articles and numerous conference proceedings. His work spans computational modeling, algorithm development, and experimental validation of radiation-induced acoustic imaging techniques for applications in proton, electron, and X-ray based cancer treatment. He has mentored undergraduate research projects at UC Irvine and delivered guest lectures on theranostics with radiation-induced ultrasound emission imaging.
