Biography

Phat T. Dang, M.D., is Assistant Clinical Professor, Step IV, in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Care at the University of California Irvine Medical Center. He received his M.D. from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in 2013. Dang completed his anesthesiology residency at Rush University Medical Center, followed by fellowships in Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine at the University of California, San Diego, and Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology at the University of Southern California, Keck School of Medicine. He holds triple board certifications in Anesthesiology, Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine, and Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology, and is certified in Advanced Perioperative Echocardiography.

Dang serves as Section Chief of Blood Management and Cardiac Anesthesiology Rotation Director at UC Irvine Medical Center. He participates on multiple departmental committees, including the ECMO Task Force for CVICU, Conservation and Sustainability Committee, Wellness Committee, Scheduling Advisory Committee, Compensation Advisory Committee, and Clinical Competency Council. At the hospital level, he serves as Pulmonary Embolism Response Team Liaison and Blood Transfusion/Blood Bank Liaison. His national committee involvement includes the Adult Item Writing Committee for the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the Mechanical Support Subcommittee for the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists, the SOCCA Mechanical Circulatory Support/ECMO/CT ICU Workgroup, and the ASA Abstract Review Subcommittee.

Dang has authored or co-authored 11 peer-reviewed publications and four book chapters in critical care medicine. His research interests include acute kidney injury after cardiac surgery, antibiotic levels in ECMO patients, and hemostasis monitoring in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. He has presented over 40 abstracts at national meetings, including the American Society of Anesthesiologists, Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists, and Society of Critical Care Medicine. Dang has received the Faculty Discover Award in 2023 and 2025, and was named Skokie Hospital Resident of the Year in 2018 and Rush University General Surgery Intern of the Year in 2014.
