Ryan C. Tone
Biography
Ryan Tone, M.D., is Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Care, where he practices Anesthesiology, Critical Care Medicine, and Perioperative Medicine at UCI Health. He serves as Medical Director of the Center for Perioperative Care at UC Irvine Medical Center, leading the program that prepares patients for safe, optimized surgical care.
Dr. Tone earned his M.D. from Loma Linda University School of Medicine in 2012. He completed an internal medicine internship, anesthesiology residency, and critical care medicine fellowship at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, finishing his training in 2017. Along the way, he developed expertise beyond the bedside, earning a Perioperative Medicine Administration Certificate from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University. In 2026, he completed leadership training through UCI School of Medicine's Sustainable Advancement Initiatives for Leadership Academy.
His clinical work spans anesthesiology, critical care medicine, and perioperative medicine, with particular focus on cardiothoracic critical care and perioperative optimization. Before joining UC Irvine in 2022, Dr. Tone served as Assistant Professor at Loma Linda University School of Medicine, where he worked as an intensivist in both the Cardiothoracic and Surgical Intensive Care Units at Loma Linda University Medical Center and served as Associate Medical Director of the Perioperative Surgical Home.
Dr. Tone is board certified in both anesthesiology and critical care medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology. Teaching is central to his work. He regularly leads workshops and didactic sessions on point-of-care ultrasound, airway management, perioperative optimization, and critical care management for residents, fellows, and advanced practice providers. He also lends his clinical perspective across the institution as a consultant to numerous committees at UC Irvine Medical Center, including the Left Ventricular Assist Device Selection Committee, the Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenator Task Force, the Pulmonary Embolism Response Team, the Quality and Patient Safety Committee, and various perioperative optimization committees.
