Roshan M. Patel
Biography
Roshan M. Patel, M.D., is Vice Chairman of Strategic Operations & Business Development, Chief of the Division of Endourology, Director of the UCI Kidney Stone Center, and Associate Professor of Clinical Urology in the Department of Urology at the University of California, Irvine. A specialist in minimally invasive urologic surgery, Patel focuses on the treatment of kidney stones and renal masses, with particular emphasis on technological innovation in endourology. He received his M.D. from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, completed his urology residency at Boston University, and completed a two-year fellowship in endourology and stone surgery at the University of California, Irvine.
Patel has secured over $800,000 in research funding from sources including the American Cancer Society, the Barry Hoeven Memorial Cancer Research Project, and multiple Proof of Product grants from the University of California, Irvine. His research has focused on developing novel surgical devices and techniques, including force sensors for ureteral access sheath deployment, modular wireless endoscopes, and methods for measuring intracalyceal pressure during ureteroscopy. He holds two patents for urologic devices and has served as principal investigator on clinical trials evaluating new technologies for stone treatment.
Patel has authored over 75 peer-reviewed publications and presented more than 140 abstracts at national and international meetings. He has received multiple Best Poster awards at the American Urological Association Annual Meeting and the World Congress of Endourology. Patel serves as a reviewer for seven urology journals and has been recognized as a Top Reviewer for the Journal of Endourology for seven consecutive years. He directs the Leadership and Innovation Fellowship Training (LIFT) Program, a one-year intensive research program for medical students, and has trained six endourology fellows since 2018.
