Biography

Roxane Cohen Silver is a Distinguished Professor at the University of California, Irvine, where she holds appointments in the Departments of Psychological Science, Public Health, and Medicine. She earned her B.A. in Psychology with the highest honors from Northwestern University in 1976 and completed her Ph.D. in Social Psychology at the same institution in 1982. Silver has been a faculty member at UC Irvine since 1989, progressing from an Assistant Professor to her current position. Since October 2021, she has also served as the Vice Provost for Institutional Research, Assessment, and Planning at UC Irvine.

Silver's research primarily examines psychological responses to traumatic life events, including personal and collective traumas, and the role of media in amplifying distress after such events. She has received multiple grants from prestigious agencies such as the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health to support her research endeavors. Silver's extensive publication record features numerous articles in high-impact journals and several edited volumes.
