Biography

Sangeetha Abdu Jyothi, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of California, Irvine, and an Amazon Scholar. She received her Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 2019. Her research focuses on networked systems and distributed machine learning, with particular emphasis on Internet resilience, data center networks, and explainability in learning-enabled systems.

Abdu Jyothi is a recipient of the 2026 ACM SIGMETRICS Rising Star Research Award, the NSF CAREER Award in 2025, and was named an N2Women Rising Star in Networking and Communications in 2022. She received the IETF/IRTF Applied Networking Research Prize in 2022 and the ACM CoNEXT Best Paper Award in 2024. During her doctoral studies, she was awarded the Facebook Graduate Fellowship and the Mavis Future Faculty Fellowship from the UIUC College of Engineering. She was selected as a Rising Star in EECS at MIT in 2018.

Abdu Jyothi has held research positions at VMware Research and collaborated with Microsoft Research and Microsoft's Cloud & Information Services Lab. She has served the research community in various roles, including as ACM HotNets General Co-Chair, ACM SIGCOMM Workshops Co-Chair, and Journal of Systems Research Networking Area Co-Chair. She has been a program committee member for conferences including NSDI, SIGCOMM, SIGMETRICS, and MLSys.
