Biography

Seyedamirvala Saadat (Val) is a research associate in the Department of Urology at the University of California, Irvine, where he has worked in the Curiosity and Innovation Laboratory under Drs. Ralph Clayman and Jaime Landman since March 2022. He received his B.S. in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Irvine in June 2022, graduating with a 3.562 GPA and earning Dean's Honor List recognition for nine consecutive quarters. His research focuses on urological device innovation, electromotive drug administration for ureteral dilation, and the application of machine learning to predict surgical outcomes.

Saadat has contributed to multiple peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations in urological research. His work includes studies on electromotive drug administration in the porcine ureter and renal pelvis, the development of a cost-effective force sensor for ureteral access sheath deployment, and the evaluation of pharmaceutical agents for modulating ureteral distensibility. He served as co-investigator and coordinator for a $25,000 pilot study funded by the UC Irvine School of Medicine examining the impact of sodium bicarbonate on urine parameters in kidney stone formers. His abstract on electromotive drug administration was selected as a Top 10 Abstract at the 37th Annual Conference of the Engineering and Urology Society in 2024.

Prior to his research career, Saadat worked as a clinic manager at Hosseini Medical INC, an endocrinology practice in Irvine, California, from February 2023 to September 2024. He is fluent in English and Farsi, with intermediate proficiency in Arabic. Saadat volunteers as a karate instructor at Tajik Karate Academy and has participated in educational outreach programs at the UC Irvine Surgical Education Center, teaching surgical skills to high school students.
